How it works
From confused to done, in three steps
Read the free guide
Step-by-step instructions for your procedure and country, with the date we last checked them and the official sources.
Ask the assistant
Instant answers taken only from our guides, with the source shown. If it doesn't know, it says so.
Chat with someone who's done it
When your case isn't the usual one, an expat who did the same procedure helps you by chat.
Why it's hard
The official instructions are only half the story
Every office asks for something different
Málaga wants a document Valencia doesn't, and the website doesn't say so.
Appointments disappear in minutes
Miss one detail and you're back to refreshing cita previa for weeks.
Your case isn't the standard one
Student, partner visa, self-employed, renewing. Guides stop where your question starts.

Questions
What is BeenThere Expats?
A place where expats help each other with paperwork abroad. We publish free, dated guides to common procedures, an assistant answers questions from those guides, and when your case is unusual you can chat with a verified expat who did the same procedure. Helpers are paid from a share of subscriptions.
When do you open?
We're opening in Spain first, starting with Málaga and Valencia. Everyone who registers interest is invited before the public launch. France, Italy, Portugal and Ireland follow: the countries and cities with the most people registered open next.
What does it cost?
Guides are free, with 3 assistant questions a day. €15 a month adds unlimited questions and up to 5 helper requests. Helpers never pay.
How do helpers get paid?
A fixed share of subscription revenue goes into a monthly helper pool. It's split between helpers by the number of requests they resolved that month, and paid out through Stripe.
Who are the helpers?
Expats who personally completed the procedure, ideally in the same province. They verify their identity with Stripe and are rated after every request.
Is this legal advice?
No. Guides describe the common path and helpers share their personal experience. For legal, tax or immigration advice, speak to a qualified professional such as a gestor or lawyer.
What do you do with my email?
Only what you asked for: one email to confirm, then emails about our launch. You can remove it any time. See privacy.
